A guest lecture was organized by the Petrotech Society of Indian School of Mines on 8th Feb, 2010.
The lecture was delivered by honorable Dr. M.S. Gulati, a distinguished alumnus of ISM currently in California who has been working in Geothermal Energy projects in Union Oil Company (Uniocal). He gave us breif knowledge about geothermal energy and ways to harness it. He explained two different methods of harnessing geothermal energy, i.e., liquid dominated geo-projects and vapor dominated geo-projects.The process of production involved in Geothermal Energy was also briefed.
Dr. Gulati showed us the data about two geo-thermal projects of Uniocal in California and Indonesia. He told us about the new injection technologies being developed to increase the life of the well and social initiatives being taken by his company in Santa Rosa, California.
The lecture lasted for about one and half hour and he also answered the queries of students regarding geo-thermal energy. Some of the faculty members of Petroleum Department of ISM also attended the lecture.
At the end of the lecture Dr. Gulati was honoured with a Shawl. The guest lecture was a successful effort in arousing interest in non-conventional energy resources such as geothermal energy among the students.
