After a brief introduction of ISM Student Chapter of Petrotech Society by Miss Astha Sharma, chapter’s president, a teamcomprising of first year students began a discussion on ‘oil subsidy’ in industrial and agricultural sector. Various aspects of consumerism and government policies of India were discussed and it was finally concluded that oil subsidy cannot be taken forward in future and needs to be removed in an ordered way within a period of say 10 years while for the agricultural and poor people it could be removed more slowly and kept at a fair level thereafter. The second team scrutinized the necessity of ‘oil conservation’ and its effect on industrial development. It was finally realized that conservation and development are not anti-thesis of each other and we ought to have a very efficient strategy to conserve resources in such a way that it does not hamper our development. The third discussion was about nationalization of oil companies and how it justified up to a certain level.
After the gd was over dr. Patre sir enlightened us with his views over all the three topics and then dr. Rajnisinghbreifed the strength and weaknesses of differnet participants and finally the winners were announced. The session proved out to be fruitful with students being given an opportunity to test both technical know-how and analytical and reasoning skills.
